Tunk Mountain Tour

Spring is upon us.  It is time to get out of the Lodge and onto the trail.  March’s event is going to be a five mile hike at Tunk Mountain.  This should be the most challenging hike we have taken so far.  Tunk Mountain, located outside of Cherryfield,  is further afield than the Troop has been before.  The hike contains a steeper section of trail than we have encountered before.  A stream crossing is included.  The weather also looks questionable but we still plan on giving it a try!

Meeting Place:  Dysart Travel Stop on Rt. 1A in Holden

Meeting Time:  9 am

Finish Time: 5 pm

Here are the things that your son will need:

  • Bible
  • water
  • some trail snacks
  • weather appropriate clothing including a hat, gloves and a jacket
  • rain gear
  • a small bag / backpack to carry their supplies in

We would  suggest that the boys put a plastic bag inside their bag to keep their stuff dry.  A dry pair of shoes, socks and a SMALL towel would be nice for the ride home.

We would also suggest that you send your son with a small amount of money for a snack/hot cocoa on the ride home.

FINALLY, we need to know who is coming so that we can figure out how many vehicles we will need.  If I have not hear from you by Thursday, I am going to assume that you are not coming and make the plans accordingly.  Dads, if you are willing to drive, please let me know.  My e-mail address is

Here is a link with information about where we are going.

Meeting Plans – Saturday, March 5th 2016 ::PLEASE READ and RESPOND::

Hello, Trailmen and Families!

This past month, we were focusing on teaching our sons about being Men of Honor. We looked at career paths, integrity, and heritage (talking about the generations that came before us), and ultimately taking a trip to the Central Fire Department in Bangor, to learn about men and women that we highly honor in our society…our fire fighters.

That transitions nicely into a great opportunity that we are being afforded this coming weekend.  I just spoke with someone at the Maine GOP office about having our parents and boys attend the Republican Primary Caucus this Saturday at Husson University.  They said that kids are certainly welcome to attend.  I’m also checking to see if there is anything the boys can do to help with event.

This is a great opportunity for us to show our boys a portion of the civic/government process. So, in lieu of meeting at Crossroads Camp this Saturday (3/5), we will be meeting at 3:00pm at Husson University (just outside the Peabody Room, in the Campus Center).

IMPORTANT: Whether or not you are planning to attend this Saturday, could you please contact me (click here for email) to let me know if you will attend or not.  Thank you!!

Walk Worthy,

P.S. Since I am a registered Republican, I am only allowed to participate in the Republican caucus. If any of our moms/dads are registered Democrats and would like to arrange a meeting at the Democratic caucus please contact me, and I’ll be glad to help you with the process of  setting that up! The Democratic caucus will be held on Sunday, March 6th.
